Get Set. And Go!

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

ربي اشرح لي صدري و يسر لي أمري واحلل عقدة من لساني يفقه قولي

ربي زدني علما وارزقني فهما

Do you sometimes feel like your day should have more than 24 hours?

We all do, don’t we?

We come with a pre-set time and we want to fit all that we need to do in that limited time. Not being able to perfectly fit everything under the sun in our already constricted schedule frustrates us. But let’s hold back that emotion for a second and consider what that leads us to. Besides the stress, it makes us an unproductive, ineffective, failing, and, quite simply, a whining people.

A prerequisite to getting things done is knowing which things need to be done in the first place. And this is why it’s important to learn the art of prioritizing things.

Here are some tips that successful time-managers keep sharing:

Most appointments/events/plans are pointless. Not everything that we do are of benefit to our productivity. Some things are there just to while away our time, even if they’re planned. Learning to be able to say ‘no’ is the foundation to prioritizing. The easiest way to getting lots of things done in a short time is by simply committing to fewer, more important things.

Priorities vary according to the person.
Your priorities may not be the same as others. Your education, health, personal growth, spiritual well-being are all your concerns and it’s upon you to take care of them by doing what works for you —knowing fully well that nobody else will take charge of your priorities for you.

Give weight to what matters more.
Most of the successful time-managers keep a journal with them to schedule their biggest priorities of the day. Use a journal/planner and jot down 6 of your biggest priorities of the day and act on them. Day after day, you will realize that you are utilizing your time to do that which matters the most to you, sans the distractions from other tasks.

These three simple but effective lessons are the powerful tools of time-management. If you and I could inculcate them in our everyday lives, we perhaps might no longer worry that our days have no more than 24 hours.

May Allah bless our time.
