Ramadan Dhikr Course – Day 29

RAMADHAN DHIKR COURSE
DAY 29:

Let’s begin!
Dhikr of the Day
1⃣

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min sharri sam’i, wa min sharri basari, wa min sharri lisani, wa min sharri qalbi, wa min sharri minnee
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evils of my hearing, the evils of my seeing, the evils of my tongue; the evils of my heart and the evils of passions.
Abu Dawud and AtTirmidhi: Hasan
2⃣
Allahuma inni a’oodhu bikka min an aruda ila ardhalil ‘umur.
Oh Allah I seek refuge in You from reaching an age which am not able to distinguish anything.
NB: Formulated du’a according to the following ayah:
Surah An-Nahl, Verse 70:
And Allah has created you, then He causes you to die, and of you is he who is brought back to the worst part of life, so that after having knowledge he does not know anything; surely Allah is Knowing, Powerful.
Let me explain why we chose these two duas so that we can cover what we missed for yesterday in shaa Allah.
1⃣ The tongue is very powerful such that it can destroy a mountain of thawaab. Subhan Allah, most of the narrations explain the importance of controlling one’s tongue and private parts (controlling your desires). If one is able to control these two then he/she will have a control over their nafs and not become a slave to it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was narrated to have used demonstration in saying the importance of controlling one’s tongue. Subhan Allah, look at how it is stressed in Islam (Note: In modern day context, this applies to the fingers with which you use to type messages, so watch what you type!).
2⃣ Second du’a: Everyone will become old someday if your time of death is written to be in old age; and there are some people, after reaching old age, become like a young child or baby. They don’t remember who you are and forget the knowledge they possessed, even of the most basic type. Subhan Allah. May Allah protect us from that. Seek Allah’s refuge from such a tragic stage of life.
Action of the Day
Today we’ll be doing something which you may have been doing regularly for some time. In that case, it is good and consider this as encouragement to continue doing so.
Reciting Qur’aan in a voice that is heard in your house, or workplace during breaks, or while travelling in the car. (Note: Women should not recite in the presence of men who are not mahram). You can also turn on a Qur’aanic recitation instead of reciting yourself.
Why are we stressing this? Life is difficult and stressful for most of us; and we need a reprieve from it at times. Allah tells us dhikr gives the heart rest.
Surah Ar-Rad, Verse 28:
Those who believe and whose hearts are set at rest by the remembrance of Allah; now surely by Allah’s remembrance are the hearts set at rest.
Qur’aanic recitation is a part of dhikr.
Subhan Allah, look at what Allah tells us. He says it brings peace, tranquillity and rest to the heart.
Dear brother/sister, if you are one of those who listen to music but have stopped due to Ramadhan, please continue staying away from it.
The One Whom you fear (Allah) and asked for His forgiveness in this month is the same One Whom you should fear after this month is over.
Remember: Music (stress) and Qur’aan (rest) cannot stay in one heart. Whenever music enters, Qur’aan goes away and vice versa. It’s like saying whenever rest comes then stress goes away.
Make it a habit to always listen to 1 to 5 verses per day if you missed reading and reflecting on the verses. The sahabah used to feel shy whenever they missed setting their eyes on the Qur’aan, subhan Allah!
Let’s try our best to listen to at least five verses, if not reading them and reading the tafseer of at least one verse a day.
It’s not a must that you sit with a book and start searching for translation. Nowadays, there are faster ways and good alternatives to find authentic tafseer, so use them wisely.
If your eyes have no time to look at the Words of Allah, then at least use your ears to listen to them.
