Unconditional love of a mother

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

ربي اشرح لي صدري و يسر لي أمري واحلل عقدة من لساني يفقه قولي

ربي زدني علما وارزقني فهما

Mother’s love for her child is a pure form of love, yet even this is habituated by her possessiveness and maternal attachment. A mother’s love shapes cultures and individuals. The love of a mother for her child is incomparable to any other human love. This is a known fact that applies even to animals. Allah knows what your mother does for you, He sees your mother feeling pain whilst she tries to give you whatever you ask for. He sees your mother’s love and kindness. Pleased by your mother’s actions, Allah has given her a very high status and many virtues and rewards. Allah said in the Quran, “And We have enjoined upon man (care) for his parents. His mother carried him, (increasing her) in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination”. [Quran: Luqman 31:14].

She is the first person in our life to sacrifice for us by giving birth to us. She taught us how to walk, talk and smile. Our first mentor and teacher in helping us determine what is right and wrong. That is how our mothers are. A mother generally loves her children no matter what they do and her love is genuine and knows no end. There is no sacrifice too great when it comes to her offsprings even if it means giving up her own comfort. She puts the needs of her children before her own. Mother’s love is selfless and she will see her child through the bad times and the good ones too and no matter how grown up her child is.

A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child. It is the mother who suffers more pain in taking care and in protection of the child. She nurtures and brings up the child in her lap filled with love until she delivers him/her to the society. One would be quite astonished to comprehend what a mother really does for her child. Only then, one would agree that none could match a mother in her love. Not even a loving maid or a babysitter. Sure, a maid or a babysitter is able to offer the services, they do so in return for a wage, not merely for the love of the child.

The privilege of motherhood is so great that Imam Ali (A.S.) said, “Be respectful to women, for they are the mothers of mankind”.

Many people say that mothers are the emotional backbones of the family. If problems occur, they are the anchors that hold back the family and we can always rely on them, they help us when we are undergoing certain emotional or physical challenges in life. A person who does the work of many for free. A mother’s unconditional love cannot be replaced. As their children, let us show them our appreciation and love of the priceless sacrifice they have done since the day we were born. For this moment maybe, we are focused on making our dreams come true and facing our adult life and the challenges that come with it, but we need to realise that as we grow old they are also getting old every day.
