Are you ready to learn how to be an organized home-maker so that you can stop feeling like you are constantly drowning in a sea of laundry, dirty toilets, uncooked meals, and cranky kids and finally figuring out how to live a balanced, productive, and organized life? Many home- makers have given up on the fight to find time for themselves in trying to get everything done. The following time management tips can be used by a home-maker to take some of the stress out of life by creating more time with children, spending quality time with one’s spouse, or even giving oneself that desired but nearly forgotten alone time.
Be Organized
Being organized can remove stress from neglected important tasks, working from early morning to late night, losing children’s homework-time, and fretting about many other stress traps that home-makers cannot afford to ignore. There is an endless list of daily tasks and responsibilities that cannot be ignored by each home-maker every day. Therefore, it is vital to plan effectively and organize your days instead of worthlessly spending your day without proper planning. Make To-Do lists your best friend by either making weekly schedules or daily To-Do lists in whatever way you find more convenient. Plan ahead so that you start off your week/day with a solid plan in mind. When your weekly or daily goals are set and known, productivity can be maximized and greater efficiency is achieved in one’s tasks.
Plan your schedule around the 5 daily prayers
Plan you day around five daily prayers regardless of how busy or congested your daily schedule may seem.Besides being conscious about your five prayers, you will find that you no longer have to make excuses for neglecting your prayers and additionally, Allah will help you achieve your tasks in an efficient manner. Set prayer reminders on your phone so that you do not forget to take out some minutes from your day to perform duties due to your Lord.
Combining Tasks/Activities
When it comes to our children, our love for them makes us do everything for them, includingtasks that are necessarily theirs to do, Eventually, this becomes a habit that is almost impossible to breakbut then we will realize that it is impossible for one person to do it all. While it’s also tempting to cover all household responsibilities yourself to ensure that everything is done correctly. Putting some effort into getting spouses and children to pitch in can really pay off in the long run. The trick is to break chores into simple tasks which are manageable to them. But if you feel more harried than helped, it’s time to shelve the multitasking for a bit. Use the time when your spouse is playing with the kids after he get home from work to finish off whatever tasks left or prepare for tomorrow’s tasks.Pair mindless tasks with focus-dependent ones when it’s appropriate. For example, you can quiz your kids on test questions while you clean the kitchen. If you are already making dinner, why not clean the kitchen at the same time? Make note of the things you can combine. It will come in handy when you are making your new schedule. Know what needs your maximum attention and know when it is required. Make it a point to put the needs of your family above all other tasks – that is a mother’s first and foremost duty.
Take Care of Yourself, Too!
Mothers tend to put themselves last on the list whilst taking care of parental, relationship and household duties. A good management also involves taking care of one’s self, be it one’s physical, spiritual or emotional well-being. We tend to be less productive and efficient when we are tired or when we don’t have healthy foods to function at our best. So, it’s important to do dhikr (devotional acts) like reading the Quran, getting a quality sleep, and eating healthy food. As a mother, you owe yourself some rest after the hustle of the day and between running after your kids, your husband and household chores. Draw out a time in your day when you can take out minutes purely for yourself where you can just relax, take a nap or just have your cup of tea in peace and silence as this will help you get going through the rest of the day. A mom who doesn’t recharge daily is likely going to burn out quick. Mom burnout could very well be the biggest obstacle in being productive for a home-maker.
Take time out to just bond with your children
As time gets used up by our busy schedules, we tend to neglect the time we spend with our family. At the end of the day, take time out to just bond with your children and build a connection with them. You can play games with them, read to them, bathe them, or you could do anything else, it could be anything and trust me, that is most rewarding, and it will go a long way.
It is vital to have an idea of how you would like your schedule to look, and it’s also important to keep things flexible enough to accommodate the unexpected things that moms encounter like sick kids, spilled milk, and the occasional meltdown. Having a rhythm for your day but a time cushion and some backup plans can take the stress out of the unexpected and keep any schedule hiccup from throwing off your whole day or week.
