Ramadan Reminders 2022, Day 22

DAY 22: HOW THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH ﷺ SLEPT

Whenever the Prophet ﷺ went to sleep, he would say, “Allahumma bismika ahya wa amoot (Oh Allah, in Your name I live and die).” [Sahih al-Bukhari 7394]

The Prophet ﷺ recommended for a Muslim to recite certain verses before going to bed:

  1. When Ayat-ul-Kursi is recited, Allah ﷻ will appoint a guard, and no devil will approach them until morning comes. [Sahih al-Bukhari 2311]
  2. Reciting the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night will suffice a person. [Sahih al-Bukhari 5009]
  3. A’isha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated, “Whenever the Prophet ﷺ went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times.” [Sahih al-Bukhari 5017]

May Allah ﷻ grant us sleep – a blessing and an act of worship.
