DAY 14: THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH ﷺ ON DYEING GREY HAIR
Additionally, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke about white hair, “Change this with something, but avoid black.” [Sunan an-Nasa’i 5076 | Grade: Sahih (Darussalam)]
The Prophet ﷺ encouraged dyeing grey hair because it was not practiced by the Jews and Christians. He ﷺ mentioned that the best things with which to change grey hair are henna and ‘katam’ (a plant similar to henna which is used as a dye). However, dyeing the hair black is prohibited in Islam, and the Prophet ﷺ said, “Some people will dye their hair black like the breasts of pigeons at the end of time, but they will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise.”
May Allah ﷻ keep us on the right path and help us stay away from all that He ﷻ has prohibited.
