Don’t Forget Your Share of This World

Islam is a religion of moderation.
Despite the countless accusations,
It is one balanced in approach and,
the only way to attain salvation.

It has no room for crookedness,
Or Jahiliyyah, and it’s misguidance.
Instead, a straight path to success,
It is a light after darknesses.

In it, knowledge is indispensable
For the success of a believer.
In matters of religion and of worldly life,
To triumph, here and hereafter.

Certainly, of all the knowledge to learn,
Tauheed must always lead the way.
And once thorough with the basics of Islam,
Secular knowledge can find its way.

The Quran and the Sunnah guide us to do so.
Truth be told, it is a necessity.
Had it not been the case, one may ask,
Why did the sahaba attain worldly prosperity?

Heard of Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him)?
A sahabi given glad tidings of Paradise!
And, yet he didn’t forsake this world.
Instead, made a fortune rarely surpassed.

How about Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)?
A leader at heart, a brave one too.
A trader and an expert in genealogy,
He knew tribesmen and their ancestries too.

Mother of the believers, Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her)
renowned for narration of ahadiths.
Also had great insight about things
Which held medicinal properties.

Furthermore, to justify,
The need for knowledge of this world —
The hadith of our Prophet ﷺ says,
No disease is without a cure.

So, to seek an antidote for ailments,
While trusting Allah’s decree
to advance in research with hope
That has been the Islamic legacy.

In a plethora of Quranic verses,
Allah ﷻ shows His signs around us.
In them we behold His might and power.
Through them we reflect and ponder.

Overcome with humbleness,
As one begins to delve deeper
And seeks more knowledge of His ﷻ signs
They’re more in awe of the Creator.

The more in awe of the Creator,
The more beautiful the relationship.
Thus, why not seek this knowledge,
That undoubtedly leads to worship.

So go forth, O Muslim!
Seek knowledge that is beneficial
Do not transgress, do not digress.
Seek your share from what’s permissible.
