Maryam, the best woman of her generation.
Attained siddiqiya — a lofty station.
Although not a prophet that’s sent to a nation,
She set an example of religious perfection.
Allah ﷻ the Almighty chose her for His service,
Her virtue was distinct, her devotion conspicuous.
Her faith was resolute, it fueled her toughness,
A second time, He chose her as the mother of Isa
Brought up in worship, devout and dutiful,
Secluded in a chamber of the Sacred Masjid,
Each time Zakariyyah entered her chamber,
He found a sight that left him bewildered.
Maryam was granted miraculous provision,
The fruit of her reliance in Allah ﷻ, our Guardian.
He grants whom He wills, unbounded provision,
It diminishes not in the least from His dominion.
Inspired by the sight of this marvelous miracle,
Zakariyyah made du’a to Allah ﷻ, the All-Capable.
To grant him what may, at first, seem illogical:
A child to an old and barren couple.
He knew then just as Maryam had known,
Nothing is beyond the Owner of the Great Throne.
To create life through a human genome,
Or to create it miraculously is all the same.
And a second time Allah ﷻ chose Maryam,
As the mother of Isa, a prophet from the ulul-‘azm.
Without the need for a man, He created him,
It was all a part of his infinite wisdom.
’Twas nonetheless a profound trial for a mother,
She was carrying him, but he had no father.
A child without a father? What kind of behavior?
The people didn’t stop to assume good of her.
In response to what ensued of scandal,
Allah ﷻ helped her by granting a miracle.
Infant Isa spoke from the cradle,
All due to her unyielding tawakkul.
He gave testimony to his mother’s purity,
Shattering the rumors of her immorality,
Speaking the praise of Allah, the Almighty,
Trampling the seed of Shirk and affirming His unity.
Of all the lessons that can be learnt,
A few surely are more prominent.
To know ar-Razzaq, as Maryam had known,
Is to rely on Him for all our concerns.
Mother of Isa, an example for believers,
She had knowledge of Allah ﷻ and His attributes.
She set an example of a life spent in servitude,
Had tawakkul that was unmatched and resolute.
To have faith when things go wrong,
To stay humble when things go right,
Such is the tawakkul in the truest sense,
That brings about miracles unforeseen.
