Sacred Day, Sacred Month

Allah, you saved Your believers that day;
Musa had his trust in You, come what may!
إن معي ربي سيهدين
And Your Mercy was the answer, to this day we deem.

Closer we are to Musa than a Jew,
So an extra day we fast, that was the Prophetic view;
A golden opportunity, O wise one,
Sins of one year prior, with sincere fast, gone!

A day so sacred, in a month so sacred,
It is Ashura, the 10th of Muharram.
Gratitude in our hearts as we hereby fulfil
The best day to fast after Ramadan, which it is.

Stick to what the Prophet said,
Fast with your heart content;
Follow the righteous predecessors,
With this Ashura, may Allah bless us.
