When Greed Met Compassion

It was quarter to twelve.
Street lights dimmed by the cold mist,
Worn out sock on one foot and a ripped leather shoe on the other,
Compassion folded the two dollar notes in his hands,
And with a frail smile, hid them away in his pockets.

Compassion had begun closing down the food stall,
Before Greed, a well-dressed man,

Do you want to know
What righteousness is?
Though, many seeds you can sow,
But the one obligation of His
Which all generations owe?

On all generations,
Zakah was obligated,
As a purification
For all possessions.

A shopper in hand among the bustling crowd;
Bargained with sales at the stall,
To not lose a penny in doubt.

Her favourite love story
Was always the Sujood,
Where she and her Maker
Were the only ones.

The Secret Rendezvous

In the silence of the night
And in the darkness of a frail flickering candlelight,
She emerges with dampened skin,
Cladding her head with warm poplin.
Shivering body is soothed by the serenity from within.

She positions herself before Him .
Eyes set on the place of Sujood, hands raised,
And with an  اللّه اكبرself readily enslaved.
